In England we often consider the same holiday destinations all the time. Magaluf for the young and stupid; desperate for alcohol and average sex. Cruises for the elderly and rich. Thailand for the twenty something traveller and Wales for those who don’t know where else to go. On our own doorsteps we have a country that can be at once breathtakingly beautiful, at other times it can be grey, bleak and altogether horrible. It has the luxuries we’re used to in England; places like Cardiff are extremely attractive cities, while some of the countryside (especially along the coasts and centrally) is simply wonderful.
You can travel to the north of Wales; slightly less inhabited, a little less civilised, but with some wonderful coastlines to explore. Not so many sandy beaches, but some excellent cobbled ones provide a Byron-esque look to the countryside. Well worth a visit if you can convince your friends not to go to Magaluf.
